Another Year!!!

Well, here comes another school year. Wow, the summer seemed to fly by. I had a nice time with family and friends. My family and I kicked the summer off by going to Wisconsin Dells. My girls had a blast on all the water slides. They sure are brave- more so than I am. I am surprised they didnt turn into fish with all the time they spent in the water. Then in July, we drove to Colorado to see my husbands family. HIs sister and her kids were there from Alaska, so it was a nice time. We were there for the 4th of July, and with all the wildfires, there were no fireworks there. So, it definitely was a quiet night. Then August came, and time to get into school mode. There seems so much to do before that 1st day of school. There are a few changes in the library this year. Mrs. Nelson retired at the end of the school year, so she could travel more with her husband. I sure will miss her. I will be at McKinley full time. Also, I will have a half time para/assistant. Her name is Mrs. Deibert. She is coming to us from Bennett. Please welcome her and be patient with us, as we learn together and get our "groove". Please come in and say hi. If you have any books that you would love to pass on, we would love to hear those as well. This years theme in the library is "BOOKS ARE SWEET"

HALLOWEEN IS OVER

Well, we survived Halloween. It was on a Monday and sure made the day seem long. We did so much in October, it was a whirlwind of activity. We had Kim Brown (aka D.W) visit our school- she was so much fun and the kids loved her presentations. We started a reading promotion that will last until April.
SMART boards are getting used more and more everyday. There is so much to learn, but very interesting and exciting!
Now on to the month of November. We will have a few days off, but conferences will also be upon us in just a couple of weeks.
I am going to try and keep this updated as much as I can.
It has been so hectic, but I am determined to try and use this more as a way of communication and also for some great ideas.

BOOKS GALORE

I have had a great first month of school. Very hectic, but overall very rewarding and fun. I have learned so much in such a short time- I have even amazed myself. I think we have done so much already. We have had an author visit, reading incentives, smart board and projector issues, and so much more. There just arent enough hours in the day to get it all in. Its so hard to choose what books to share with the students. There are sooooo many and not nearly enough time to share them all. I have started to choose some of my favorites in hopes that the students have not already heard them. I know there is no harm in hearing a story more than once, but I always like to try and find titles that the kids are not familiar with already as well as some of their favorites. Everyone has their own way of telling a story or how the book is read, so I think a story can feeel like a new one even though it has already been heard.
Right now we are doing som fun fall and Halloween stories. We have read DR. POMPOS NOSE, SCAREDY SCAT SPLAT, POULTRYGEIST, HOW MANY SEEDS IN A PUMPKIN? There are so many more to share. We still need to fit in the life cycle of the pumkin, bats, and hopefully some spiders:) I also want to share one of my other favorites: HOODWINKED about a little girl with looking for a perfect pet. It is a cute little story, not scary.
Well, its time to get back to work and figure out which books to share.
Let me know what are your favroites too

Smurftastic !!!

Well, I took the girls to the movie The SMURFS. They loved it. I did think it was cute- better than I expected. Thats always something that makes me happy.

I still have so much that I need to do before school starts- and I am just not sure how to accomplish everything on that "to do" list that keep on growing...and growing...and growing.

CrAzY!!!

Well, I know it has been awhile...again. Things have been crazy. I have been working and working in my new library- rearranging and decorating. I have also been busy trying to come up with fun and exciting new ways and ideas for getting the kids reading. I have been searching and researching new books that I can share with the kids too. There are so many to choose from, its hard to decide and find ideas how to incorporate them into my storytime.

Author

I wrote an email to an author, and she actually emailed me back. Its so exciting to get a response. Her name is B.G Hennesy and she wrote the ONCE UPON A TIME MAP BOOK. Its a great book and has many great ideas for incorporating into lessons on maps and also with fairy tales. She is also working on a new book SCARY PLACES MAP BOOK> I am excited for that one to come out as well.
